Underfloor heating systems for domestic and commercial properties

Rising energy prices and new government targets for carbon emissions are making underfloor heating systems an attractive option for energy-efficient buildings. SPC's team of highly experienced professional engineers can advise you on the best underfloor heating solution for your requirements, and design and install the entire system, carrying out all work to the highest standard.

 How Underfloor Heating Systems Work

Despite the name, conventional radiator systems actually heat a room mainly by the process of convection. Warm air rises to ceiling level, leaving the floor as the coolest part of the room and resulting in a large heat loss through the roof. A surface heating system heats almost entirely by radiation. In the case of an underfloor heating system, heat is radiated from the floor and partly absorbed by other surfaces in the room. These surfaces then become secondary heat emitters and over time the entire room becomes uniformly warmed. This results in lower energy requirements, particularly for buildings with high ceilings such as churches, barns and sports halls.

Types of Underfloor Heating

Wet underfloor heating systems use a traditional hot water heating system with all pipes and other components concealed beneath the floor.

Electric underfloor heating systems use no water and are entirely electric. Like the wet underfloor heating system, everything is completely concealed from view.
